Convert a Checklist Task to a New Card

Turn any checklist task into its own card—without retyping. Perfect for when a sub-task grows into a bigger piece of work that needs its own space, owner, and workflow.

How to Convert a Task to a Card

  1. Open the card that contains the checklist item you want to convert.
  2. In the Tasks section, click the task you would like to convert.
  3. On the bottom row of task actions, click the Convert task to card icon (fourth icon, looks like a card).

  4. In the Convert task to card window:
    • Board & Column: Choose where the new card will be created.
    • Title: Edit the text if you want to change the new card’s title.
    • Template (optional): Pick a Card Template to pre‑populate fields.
    • Label (optional): Apply or change the initial label.
    • Link (optional): Keep a two‑way link between the original card and the new card.
    • Show more (optional): Access additional card options.

  5. Choose how you want to finish:
    • Convert — create the new card and stay on the current card.
    • Convert & Edit — create the new card and open it immediately in edit mode.

What Happens Next

  • The new card appears in the selected board and column with the title and options you set.
  • If you chose to link, both cards will display a link to each other.
  • The original checklist task remains on the card until you remove it.

Deleting & Data Safety

  • Deleting the original task after converting does not affect the new card.
  • Deleting the converted card will turn its link on the original card into a view‑only reference and show it as a deleted card.
