Target Dates, Deadlines & Reminders on Cards

Set when work should start and when it should finish, so everyone can see what's coming and the card shows when it's behind. Each card has a Start Date, a Target Date (which can be marked as a Deadline), and system-recorded Actual Dates.

Open the Dates tab

  1. Open the card.
  2. Go to the Dates tab.

You'll see three boxes: Start Date, Target Date, and Actual Date.

  • Start Date and Target Date show Not set until you set them.
  • Actual Date shows Not started yet until the card has actual dates.

Set a Start Date

  1. In the Dates tab, tap or click the Start Date box. A menu with a calendar opens.
  2. Choose a date on the calendar, or type it in the date box below the calendar.
  3. (Optional) Add a time to the date.

Result: the Start Date box shows the date you chose.

Check or change your time zone

Next to the date, the globe icon shows the time zone being used. On a computer, hover over it to see your current time zone. Tap or click the globe to open the Localization screen, where you can change your time zone.

Set a Target Date

  1. Tap or click the Target Date box.
  2. Choose a date on the calendar, or type it in the date box.
  3. (Optional) Add a time.
  4. (Optional) Mark the Target Date as a Deadline.
  5. (Optional) Add a Target Date reminder.

Result: the Target Date box shows your date. If you marked it as a Deadline, a red flag icon appears next to the date on the card.

Target Date or Deadline

  • A Target Date is when you expect the work to be finished.
  • A Deadline is a date with a serious, immediate consequence if it's missed. Use it sparingly so it stands out.

Add a Target Date reminder

Choose when to be reminded before the Target Date:

  • 5 minutes
  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 2 hours
  • 1 day
  • 2 days
  • 1 week

Reminders notify all card members (owner + watchers). A red bell appears in the date box when a reminder is set.

Edit or remove a date

Tap or click the Start Date or Target Date box to change the date or time, change or remove the reminder, or unset the date. To clear a date, tap or click the X icon at the right end of the date box.

Overdue indicators

  • When the due date has passed, the Dates section header turns red.
  • The due date text inside the box and the dates at the bottom also display in red until updated or completed.
  • Behind Schedule: Planned End date shows in red if the date is in the past and the card has not yet entered a green Done column.
  • Late Start: Actual Start date shows in red if it is later than the Planned Start date.
  • Late Finish: Actual End date shows in red if it is later than the Planned End date.

Actual Dates (Start & End)

  • Actual Dates are system‑generated to help track what truly happened to cards in Kanban Zone.
  • Actual Start date: Recorded when a card first enters a yellow WIP column.
  • Actual End date: Recorded when a card first enters a green Done column.
